Hello friends,
As we enter the new year, we are faced with the sobering reality that Cambodia's forests continue to fall. Data collected by the PLCn and satellites confirm that the Prey Lang Wildlife Sanctuary lost a staggering 8,600 hectares of tree cover in 2022. This was slightly less than in 2021, but is still high.
While on patrol in the Preah Prasob district, members of the PLCN saw markings on trees made by illegal loggers. They were able to use GPS data to mark and report this potential illegal logging operation.
In the 3rd monitoring report of the "Citizens Engaged for Environmental Protection for All" project - the PLCN calls on the government "to take against against the rampant deforestation and forest crimes in the area".
Thank you for your support of this group of environmental defenders. We hope you will take time to listen to this song about the forest's beaitu and about the challenges of protecting it, sung by one of the PLCN members.
