Equip 50 Health Heroes in Burundi to Serve 25,000

We are thrilled to share our latest progress as our "Health Heroes" initiative reaches a vital new milestone in Burundi. Over the past three months, we have successfully transitioned from classroom preparation into active community outreach, bringing essential health services closer to the families who need them most. Building upon their initial training in Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI) protocols, our Community Health Workers (CHWs) have officially begun conducting field visits in the neighborhoods surrounding our referral facility, Rukundo Medical Polyclinic. To ensure the highest quality of care and build strong operational confidence, our health workers are currently accompanied on these visits by experienced nurses. This hands-on coaching model allows our CHWs to apply their diagnostic knowledge in real time, receive immediate professional mentorship, and deliver reliable primary care to local households.

While our health workers are already making a tangible impact in nearby areas, our broader mission depends on reaching the most remote and underserved communities across the region. To bridge this gap, we are continuing our dedicated fundraising efforts to procure essential diagnostic kits and bicycles for our team. Navigating long distances on foot remains a major challenge, and equipping our CHWs with reliable transport and diagnostic tools is critical to scaling our impact. Every dollar contributed through GlobalGiving is being carefully managed and directed toward purchasing this essential equipment, ensuring that our heroes have everything they need to extend their reach into hard-to-access villages.

As we look ahead to the next quarter, our main focus will be maintaining this vital momentum both on the ground and through our fundraising channels. We will continue our mentored field visits alongside the clinical nursing team to further sharpen our health workers' diagnostic capabilities and community engagement skills. At the same time, we remain committed to securing the remaining resources required to buy the bicycles and medical kits that will truly unlock our team's mobility.
