In Samburu, we are currently supporting 30 young mothers who have experienced significant challenges, including early marriage, teenage pregnancy, and gender-based violence. For many, these circumstances interrupted their education and left them with limited opportunities to earn an independent income.
Through our Livelihoods Programme, we are helping these young women move from vulnerability toward economic independence. They receive practical entrepreneurship and financial literacy training, mentorship, and support to develop sustainable income-generating activities. This approach reflects GoHF’s wider livelihoods model of combining skills with mentorship and access to economic opportunities.
The programme is helping young mothers build confidence, strengthen their ability to provide for their children, participate in savings and economic activities, and regain greater control over their futures. GoHF’s work in Samburu has already demonstrated the potential of organizing young mothers into recognized groups and connecting them with pathways toward economic independence.
