Project Report | Feb 9, 2018
Hilfe fur HIV-positive Kinder in Kenia

By Johanna Wiest | Project Manager

Until 8th February 2018, $3299 have been donated for our project Equal Opportunities in Education for Kenyan Orphans via GlobalGiving. Thus, $1747 were donated to the project since our last report. We´d like to express our gratitude to all donors.

It has been decided to use this money in order to support HIV-positive children, who are not only confronted with the challenges of poverty, but also with those the disease is posing to them in their everyday life. Of 568 children in our sponsorship program, 28 children are HIV-positive. The families of these children have to pay for medication in addition to the costs of sending their child to school. The children have to cope with everyday life although they are weakened by the disease and live in ongoing fear of stigmatization by the other students. It is particularly important to us to give these children a chance for a better future.

We would also like to announce that DfA will take part in the Girl Fund Campaign, which will take place from 1st-15th March on GlobalGiving. The campaign is based on the idea that girls have an important role to play in making the world a better place and has the objective of providing them with the resources they need as well as decreasing the inequalities between boys and girls. In Kenya, girls can often not go to school during they have their period because they don´t have sanitary pads. As a consequence, they regularly miss out on school for a whole week. DfA will take part in the campaign with a project that has the objective of supporting the girls in our sponsorship project. We´d like to ask you to support us during the campaign.
