This October as the world celebrates the International Day of the Girl Child, we are reminded that when girls have education, opportunities, and respect, they can change the world. At UWS, we empower girls in STEM, develop young women's skills and confidence, and engage boys as allies to create a more equal and inclusive future. With your support, we aim to raise $200,000 to continue our programmes and reach more youth in Singapore.
Girls in Singapore face underrepresentation and a lack of confidence hindering them from entering STEM fields of study and work. Stereotypes, limited exposure, and normalised controlling behaviours leave young women less confident, less informed, and less financially independent, while boys face restrictive masculinity norms. Without early, gender-responsive education, youth lack the skills, resilience, and awareness to pursue STEM careers and build safe, equitable relationships.
United Women Singapore empowers youth through research-backed, gender-responsive programmes. Girls gain STEM exposure via workshops, field trips, career talks, and mentoring, building confidence and awareness of opportunities. Life-skills training fosters resilience, healthy relationships, and financial literacy. Together, these initiatives equip the young women to pursue STEM, and all youth to make informed choices, and cultivate safe, equitable relationships.
The long-term impact of UWS programmes is a generation of youth, both girls and boys, who are confident, resilient, and informed. Young women gain greater access to STEM careers, financial independence, and leadership opportunities, helping to close the gender gap. All youth develop the skills and awareness to form healthy, equitable relationships, challenge harmful stereotypes, and contribute to a safer, more inclusive society.
