We want to grow and by 2020 be working with 30 schools each year so that we can improve the quality of education available to 15,000 students in Kenya and Uganda annually. Our five year strategy, EPAfrica 2020, is a roadmap for changing the way we operate, expanding our operations to more universities and young people across the UK, and more schools and regions in East Africa. This funding will enable the delivery of EPAfrica 2020.
Education transforms lives. We work in direct partnership with rural secondary schools, investing in each school to build its capacity for delivering sustainable, quality education. We are a volunteer-led charity, and proud of what we've achieved since we began in the early '90s. However, having seen the impact we can have, we're keen to see more schools and young people benefiting from this, requiring us to change the way that we operate so that we can reach and partner with more schools.
These funds will enable us expand to Iganga in Uganda, allowing us to work with 8 further schools a year. Having conducted field research in 3 potential expansion sites, we have identified Iganga as being the location with the most potential for us to make an impact. We will also expand the scope of our programmes to incorporate support for teachers to develop their pedagogy, and to support schools to provide access to learning technologies and computers for their students.
Our investments empower schools to provide a quality education for their young people. We enable talented university students in the UK to experience grassroots international development and provide them with the awareness, knowledge and skills to become leaders of the future. These funds will enable us to expand to a fourth project site in Iganga, Uganda, to annually recruit 75+ volunteers from more UK universities and to grow to work with 30 schools a year, reaching 15,000 students.
