Thank you for your support!
By Lizzie LaCroix | Project Coordinator
Hello friends and supporters,
Thank you for your generous support of the translation of Hesperian's "A Community Guide to Environmental Health" into Tamil. This important information about pollution, sanitation, and a variety of other environmental health topics is the first of its kind in Tamil.
Because Adaiyaalam does not have a website, you can follow the progress of this translation on Hesperian's Tamil language resources page, here: http://hesperian.org/books-and-resources/resources-in-tamil/
Please do not hesitate to be in touch if you have questions about this or any of Hesperian's other programs or resources. On behalf of Adaiyaalam and the community they serve, thank you so much for your generous donations to support this initiative!
Sincerely,
Lizzie

Thank you!
By Lizzie LaCroix | Project Facilitator
Dear supporters,
Thank you so much for your generous support of this project. Your gifts are helping Adaiyaalam support environmental health in Tamil Nadu!
We will be wrapping up this campaign on August 22nd, and will send a full report on the impact and distribution of the books at that time. In the mean time, we wanted to let you know that now is the time to share the campaign, if you know anyone who might be interested--all gifts from now until the 22nd will be matched dollar-for-dollar, and every dollar given will go toward printing costs.
Adaiyaalam sends their best regards and thanks to their supporters, and looks forward to reporting back favorably later this month.
Sincerely,
Lizzie

How do Books Help?
By Lizzie LaCroix | Project Facilitator
The view from the ground is often the best way to understand why health information is vitally important to a community. Sadhiq Pharm, the Director of Adaiyaalam, describes the situation this way:
“Preservation of natural resources and safeguarding the environment is the need of the hour for the Tamil speaking population. Villagers, farmers and tribal people are not aware that their actions are directly proportional to environmental changes. The only available medium of instruction in rural schools in Tamilnadu state is in Tamil, and there are no resources from reliable sources about environmental issues that are available in Tamil. We cannot rely on the government to raise awareness, so we must work together as communities. This book addresses all problems, in our environment, faced in everyday life with reliable solutions. It is comprehensive and lucid.”
Any money raised by this campaign will make these books a reality. Each book, in turn, will support an average of 40 people in protecting their environment and community health. We hope you will share this campaign, and help Adaiyaalam meet their goal!
