The most powerful seismic event to have shaken our country in over a century, the devastating magnitude 6.8 earthquake in southern Morocco on the night of Friday, September 8, 2023, whose epicenter was located in the province of Al-Haouz, southwest of Marrakech, which shook the entire nation and caused extensive human and material damage, resulting in a human tragedy. Millions of poor survivors urgently need help.
Earthquake survivors are mourning the immense and tragic loss of human life, but they too are risking their lives with infectious disease outbreaks, due to the potentially lethal lack of access to water, sanitation and health care. These communities no longer have any sanitary facilities, nor the resources needed to wash or care for themselves.
Jood has a shower truck, equipped with 4 shower cubicles, a hairdresser/barber position, 4 nail salon positions, 2 sinks for brushing teeth, and a stock of clothes. Our shower truck circulates daily to serve around 80 earthquake victims per day in the affected villages, providing them with care and access to personal hygiene and a pack of new clothes and hygiene products.
The access to healthcare and personal hygiene provided by our shower truck operation will help prevent the contamination and spread of epidemics and the circulation of fatal diseases, such as hepatitis A, norovirus and rotavirus, to preserve the lives of victims.
