My children eat a full meal a day

By F Beatrice Vanaja | Chief Administrative Officer

"My children are having a full meal atleast once in a day since they are admitted in New Life's Early Learning Center," says Seetha, mother of Hemanth and Nisha(names changed), with tears in her eyes. Seetha's husband died in the month of February 2016.  He was working in a workshop making switch boxes and was earning $25 per week approximately. Though they are poor, Seetha as a housewife did not feel the burden of running the family with the less amount brought by her husband. But after his death, she was left alone with the children. She has no one to support her. She had no work too.

To feed her children Seetha started working as a servant maid. She gets only $25 per month now. With this amount it is very difficult for her to feed all the three of them. One fourth of her wages is spent on house rent. With the remaining amount she should take care of the other necessities. The family was surviving with porridge Seetha manages to make. Then she heard about the early learning center of New Life. One of the student's mother told Seetha that they also provide meals in the early learning center.

Hemanth and Nisha were admitted in the early learning center of New Life, after their case was analyzed by the team. Now the children are having full meals in the noon and Seetha's worry is reduced to a great extent.

Hemanth is an intelligent boy and can learn quickly. This month the children are learning about fruits. Rhymes, stories, picture charts, etc. are used to familiarise the children with the names of the fruits, their colours, etc.

During this quarter the project expenses were met by local donations and funds borrowed from friends. We raised donations to the tune of $1000 (approximately) in October and November. $380 is used for paying the salary and food expenses for the months of October and November. $240 used to repay the money borrowed to meet the expenses of the center. We have $380 left to meet the expenses of December and January 2017. We need donations and support from people like you for functioning of the creche after January 2017.

Kindly support poor children like Hemanth and Nisha and whose mothers are in utter distress. Also spread words about the project to your friends and relatives who are generous like you. This will help these children have a quality early childhood education and a good nutritious meal one time a day.

With regards
