Concerning conflict in eastern DRC is having an impact across the country. Fuel prices have increased, adding to the already high food and medical care costs. Stockpiling due to the fear of rebel attack has led to shortages of some items, increasing the price of many food items. Insecurity, including armed robberies & a cholera epidemic, is resulting in vulnerability for an already precarious situation. Kimbilio is seeing increased numbers of children at the day centre. Your help is much needed.
The cost of food is increasing in D.R.Congo due to increased conflict in eastern DRC and increased fuel prices. DRC is reliant on imported food, increased fuel prices leads to additional prohibitive costs for the local Congolese population who are in desperate need. We are seeing increased numbers of children on the streets of Lubumbashi. The Social Welfare Department have contacted Kimbilio to see what capacity we have to support unaccompanied children being evacuated from eastern DRC.
Donations to this project will enable Kimbilio to feed more children who rely on Kimbilio for their daily food and sustenance. Kimbilio will be able to continue to provide food to the hundreds of children we already support each week through our outreach day centre, homes and school.
By ensuring these children are fed, Kimbilio will prevent children from having to engage in hard manual labour or theft to obtain food. By providing food to school pupils, Kimbilio children will be able to concentrate, focus and learn, providing them with a more positive and hopeful future. Lubumbashi society will have young people who are more engaged and integrated, in the long term benefiting social cohesion and lessen opportunities for children to be exploited and involved in conflict.
