The project will Ensure Food and Income to 500 Vulnerable Families in three zones of our working areas in Bumula District with members over 500. The project will ensure 100 widows with 400 orphans are food secure, access adequate nutritious food and have incomes for sustainable livelihood.This will be through training on sustainable farming, livestock management and provide 50 widows with cross dairy goats 1 each, 5 pullets and 1pure grade cockerel each. Other 50 to be seeds and fertilizer.
Bumula District has population of 178,897 whereby poverty index stand at 60 % (Population Census 2009). The District has cute food shortage. Members are peasant farmers - growing food crops for subsistence. The returns are quite negligible to sustain the family. Food shortage is contributed by poor farm planning, depleted soils, reduced cultivation area, poor farming techniques. Women contribute 80% household income; the worsening situation contributes to deny children and women their rights.
The project aim at improving household income and food after three years for the targeted 100 widows and 400 orphans, indirectly 5000 member, improve soils,Orphans will be facilitated to access education, adequate nutrition with empowered caregivers. Widows will be facilitated to access means of improve household income from goats and poultry products and steady food. Members will pass on skills in turn contributes to generally to improve the quality of life for the family hence whole community
On understanding 1 widow takes care 4 orphan, the project will improve 100 widows living standard with traings, improved soil fertility hence high yield, returns from poultry and goats who will in turn ensure quality lives for 400 orphan, access quality education and health. The project will consecutively improves lives of community members with upgrades poultry and dairy goats, soils and food.
