Project Report | Apr 14, 2025
1st Quester report

By Patrick Kiarie | Programs Officer

Reporting Period: Feb 8, 2025

 1. Project Overview

The project aims to address the lack of basic water and sanitation facilities for school-going girls in Kisii County, Kenya. By providing sanitary wares, improving hygiene facilities, and offering health education, the initiative seeks to reduce absenteeism, improve academic performance (especially in Science and Mathematics), and empower girls to stay in school.

 2. Progress Summary

  • Funds Raised: USD 800
  • Girls Sponsored: 8
  • Activities Completed:  2
  • Identified and sponsored 8 girls from underserved schools in Kisii County.
  • Distributed sanitary wares to the sponsored girls.
  • Conducted preliminary hygiene training sessions in partnership with local schools.
  • Initiated discussions with local stakeholders to scale the project.

 3. Challenges

  • Limited Funding: The $800 raised so far is insufficient to meet the growing demand for sanitary wares and hygiene facilities.
  • Resource Constraints: Additional funding is required to expand the project to more schools and sponsor more girls.
  • Awareness Gap: Some communities still lack awareness about the importance of menstrual hygiene management and its impact on girls' education.

 4. Next Steps

  • Fundraising: Intensify efforts to raise additional funds through online campaigns, partnerships with NGOs, and local community engagement.
  • Scaling Up: Expand the project to reach more schools and sponsor at least 20 additional girls in the next quarter.
  • Hygiene Training: Conduct comprehensive hygiene and health education workshops for students, teachers, and parents.
  • Infrastructure Improvement: Collaborate with local authorities to improve sanitation facilities in schools, including building gender-segregated toilets.

 5. Long-Term Goals

  • Increase school enrollment, retention, and academic performance among girls in Kisii County.
  • Reduce dropout rates caused by poor sanitation and menstrual hygiene challenges.
  • Empower girls to pursue higher education and employment opportunities, contributing to gender equality and economic growth.

 6. Action Points

We urgently need more resources to scale this project and make a lasting impact. our focus is on:

  • Sponsor more girls with sanitary wares and hygiene kits.
  • Improve sanitation facilities in schools.
  • Provide health education to students and communities.

Thank you for your continued support in empowering Kenyan girls and transforming their futures!
