HOLA AMIGOS! Thank you for your donations! Due to your generous contributions, Enseña por Panamá! has been able to keep growing, reach more students and prepare better teachers: We received 750 applications for 25 available teaching positions at our organization.

It was a record number of applicants but also a record number of teachers who accepted the offer and finished our intensive SUMMER TRAINING INSTITUTE, which took place in January and February 2018. Our new teachers taught Math, Spanish and English during the morning at a summer camp we had organized at a nearby public school, reaching over 120 at-risk students (also a record number). In the afternoon, our teachers would learn teaching and classroom management techniques, leadership and community involvement skills, among other topics. Our SUMMER TRAINING INSTITUTE was a huge success.  The school administration was empowered and invigorated, the parents were in awe of the changes they saw in their children’s’ behavior in just a few days of camp and the students were motivated to come to school and truly learn.

One of the most motivating SUMMER TRAINING INSTITUTE moments was when we met our student Francisco’s mother. During our first day of camp, Francisco arrived two hours late, dressed in inappropriate clothing and fighting with anyone that crossed his path. School administrators told us he was one of the school’s most challenging students; he had one of the lowest school attendance rates. At the end of our first week of classes, Francisco was a completely different person; he was on time, motivated and respectful. When we met his mother, Jeanine, she mentioned that it was the first time in her life that her son woke her up to go to school. Francisco was not only waking up before but making sure his homework was complete and delivered on time. Even though Francisco was 14 years old, he was still struggling with basic math. His Enseña por Panamá teacher, who was a trained engineer who had graduated from the top engineering program in the country, was able to teach and explain what no other teacher had done in 8 years of school. We are thankful to the school, parents and students that trusted us and made this experience possible.

If you would like to reach one of our new teachers or our summer schools students, or, please access our website, www.ensenaporpanama.com or write to us at info@ensenaporpanama.com.
