Afterschool Program Update & Student Videos!

By Irene Kuzagbe & Eric Amekorku | Afterschool Program Facilitators

We are thrilled to celebrate the transformative success of our After-School Program at Adaklu Dawanu S/A Basic School.

Following our September 18, 2026 reading assessments, an impressive 60% of participating upper-level learners showed significant reading improvement and earned well-deserved promotions to the next grade as we kick off the new academic year!

Beyond literacy, learners achieved a remarkable milestone in practical math: after starting the program unable to tell time, every single participant can now confidently read an analog clock!

The joy was equally radiant at the kindergarten level, where our youngest learners can now proudly identify, write, and pronounce letters A through F.

The After-School Literacy Programme helped learners at Lower-Level (basic 1 - 3) develop essential literacy skills such as:

  • Sight Word Recognition: It helped learners recognize and read common words more quickly and accurately.
  • Improved Reading Skills: It helped learners develop their ability to read words, simple sentences, and age-appropriate texts.
  • Word Spelling: It helped learners improve their spelling through repeated practice, word-card activities, and spelling competitions.
  • Phonics and Sound Blending: It helped learners identify letter sounds and blend sounds to form words.
  • Vocabulary Development: It helped learners understand new words by associating written words with pictures and their meanings.

Conclusion

Seeing these children flourish and gain confidence in their abilities is deeply moving. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to every supporter making this impact possible, and we warmly encourage your continued partnership through learning materials and nourishing snacks, giving these bright young minds the energy, strength, and encouragement to keep unlocking their full potential.

These achievements show what children can accomplish when they are given the opportunity and support to succeed. Thank you for making this program possible! Your generosity has played an essential role in helping these students build their skills, gain confidence, and discover the joy of learning. None of this progress would have been possible without your support.
