Breaking Ground for Brighter Futures at Adaklu Dawanu School!

By Christina Randazzo | Friends of Adaklu Volunteer

Building a Better Future at Adaklu Dawanu Basic School

We are excited to share an important milestone for the students, teachers, and families of Adaklu Dawanu Salvation Army Basic School in rural Ghana.

On May 20, 2026, community leaders, government officials, educators, parents, and students gathered to celebrate the official groundbreaking ceremony for a new 6 unit classroom block and a 6 unit teachers' bungalow. The ceremony was led by the District Chief Executive for Adaklu, Hon. Jerry Yaw Ameko, and marks the beginning of a project that will help transform education in the community.

For many years, Adaklu Dawanu Basic School has faced significant infrastructure challenges. Limited classroom space has forced some students to learn in an old bungalow and even under trees. The lack of teacher housing has also made it difficult to attract and retain teachers, especially in this rural community.

These challenges directly affect student learning. When teachers must travel long distances each day, opportunities for extra classes, afterschool support, and student mentoring are often limited. The new classroom block and teachers' housing will help create a more stable and supportive learning environment for both students and educators.

During the ceremony, community leaders expressed their gratitude and commitment to supporting the project. The District Chief Executive emphasized the importance of improving educational infrastructure throughout the district and announced that construction is expected to be completed within 12 months.

This development is especially exciting because it complements many of the programs Friends of Adaklu already supports at the school, including the After School Program, Snack Program, Computer and Coding Education, Learning Upgrade, and access to reliable internet. Together, these investments are creating greater opportunities for children to learn, grow, and build brighter futures.

The new classrooms will reduce overcrowding and provide a safer, more effective learning environment. The teachers' bungalow will allow educators to live within the community, strengthening teacher retention and increasing participation in afterschool activities and academic support programs.

Thank you for your continued support. While Friends of Adaklu is not funding this construction project, we are thrilled to see this important investment in the future of Adaklu Dawanu Basic School. Every improvement to the school helps create more opportunities for the children we serve and brings us one step closer to ensuring every child has access to quality education.

Together, we are helping build a stronger future for Adaklu Dawanu.
