Olive oil cultivation is one of the most important agricultural activities in Greece, and it is deeply intertwined with the history and traditions of our villages and the entire country. The risk of abandoning this cultivation, due to the challenges faced by the sector in recent years, such as the reduced production due to climate change and adverse weather conditions, will exacerbate the desertification of the Greek countryside and our local communities.
The risk of abandoning Olive oil cultivation in Greece, due to the challenges faced by the sector in recent years, such as the reduced production due to climate change and adverse weather conditions, is extremely high. Also, in many traditional olive-growing areas, growers may have acquired knowledge and skills through generations of family tradition and hands-on experience rather than formal education.
Many growers are seeking opportunities to improve their practices and stay updated on the latest advancements in olive cultivation. The Olive Oil Academy will offer networking opportunities, workshops and hands-on trainings, covering the entire cultivation, production and marketing chain of the olive oil, in light of modern challenges such as climate change, pest management, and market competition.
We empower olive growers to adopt sustainable farming practices, fostering environmental sustainability & climate resilience, and preserving the rich cultural heritage of olive cultivation for future generations. Project will lead to increased production, contributing to the overall economic growth and stability of olive-growing regions. NANG was established in 2018 with the initiative and donation of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) within the framework of the Recharging the Youth Program.
