Enhancing livelihood to 100 poor women in Bia B. was planned to benefit 100 women venturing in different livelihood options that are suitable to their needs, market, environments, and skills. The project overall budget was estimated at $49,518 and FOWAC managed to raise $2,028 which was quite small to implement the whole project plan. Nevertheless, we managed to adjust the project in accordance with the amount available. Out of the 100 target beneficiaries in the plan, the amount raised supported 10 women. We Identified 10 women from 10 households, engaged with them to come up with a livelihood idea of their choice. Each of them managed to come up with a project like rearing chicken, piggery, vegetable growing, pottery, produce buying and selling.
Due to the Corona Virus Standard Operating Procedure mandate, meeting in large numbers is not possible. We decided to engage project participants from their households, we encouraged participation of every adult household member to take part in the project to realize the success. As a startup capital, each of the 10 households received a Revolving fund of 400,000 ($108) agreed to revolve for 3 months before another lot can borrow again.
In addition, 2 savings groups (Lubanga Ber and mon Yelle) received 400,000 ($108) each; this money will also be revolving among the group members. The regulation on how to spend the money is decided by the group members through vote. Based on our experience about this module, we anticipate that when funds are given to groups to revolve, a multiplier effect, ownership and sustainability is created as it will reach more project participants in the community.
Agnes is one of the selected project participants, her project is piggery and she received 400,000 ($108) and this is what she had to say; “this is how I am going to use the money; I will use the money to buy feeds, improve on the shelter and buy dewormer for my pigs. I anticipate that two of my pigs will be delivered in 3 months and each is likely to produce 6-9 piglet, when I get a good number, I will pick 2 and transfer to another household”.
Balance of 1,120,000 ($302) is supporting in administrative needs like facilitation to staff moving to the field, fuel, stationaries, and bank charges.
