El Tal - Highlighting Heritage Buildings in El Tal is a community-led initiative under the Tripoli Peace Initiative, funded by the United Nations' Peacebuilding Fund and implemented by IOM with SHIFT and the Municipality of Tripoli. The project aims to enhance and highlight heritage buildings in the commercial downtown area through improved lighting and visibility, strengthening cultural identity, and supporting local economic activity.
Heritage buildings in Al-Tal suffer from neglect, poor lighting, and visual deterioration. This has reduced their cultural and aesthetic value, weakened the area's attractiveness for tourism and commerce, and negatively affected perceptions of safety, especially at night, contributing to urban decline in the city center.
The project will improve the lighting and visual presentation of heritage buildings to restore their visibility and architectural significance. By enhancing the urban landscape, the initiative will help revive the cultural and commercial role of the downtown area while improving the sense of safety and accessibility for residents and visitors.
The project will strengthen cultural identity, boost local economic activity, and enhance the attractiveness of the city center. Improved visibility of heritage buildings will support tourism and commercial revival while reinforcing pride in local heritage. In the long term, the initiative will contribute to urban revitalization, social cohesion, and stability in the heart of Tripoli.
