During Chinese New Year vacation, we have continued to provide online lessons to rural students in China. Together with our partner, Bird Nest Readying, we have launched a one-week winter camp at three libraries in Xiamen, focusing on teaching English through reading activities. 44 students took part in the winter camp. Our international volunteers used English picture books as their teaching tool to encourage students to read. Through the interactive reading lessons, students gain confidence to read and to compose sentences in English, thus improving their overall language skills.
As our first experience holding an online winter camp, we are pleased with the outcomes of the program, which enriched students' educational experiences and English learning, while broadening their horizon during the holidays. Through technology, we were able to facilitate interaction between people from different places and backgrounds. In the upcoming months, we plan to provide more exercises and audio materials to students in order to review their classes, with the objective of making our teaching materials even more holistic and comprehensive.
At the same time, since the beginning of the new year, we have continued to review and update our teaching materials to improve the quality of the lessons taught by our volunteers. In addition of developing story learning PPT lessons, our curriculum development manager created PPT lessons for students without previous English learning experience, and for grade 2 students. We are hopeful for another successful year in 2021!
