This project brings together over 2600 immigrant women in the US with over 2000 English fluent volunteer women to practice English, create connections, and promote confident participation in daily life. This free program is online and consists of small (1 volunteer/2 learners) group conversations discussing pragmatic aspects of the English language and life in the US. The program aims to bridge the gap between classroom ESL and confident use of English and participation in US culture.
Ladies Let's Talk (LLT) addresses the linguistic and social isolation experienced by immigrant and refugee women in the United States. Many arrive with limited English and little access to affordable, relational language support. ESL classes often have barriers such as waitlists, rigid schedules, and childcare challenges. Without safe opportunities to practice spoken English, women struggle to navigate healthcare, schools, and work, limiting confidence, integration, and economic mobility.
LLT offers accessible, relationship-centered English conversation programs led online by trained volunteers. Through Conversation Circles, Practice Partners, and Pronunciation Workshops, women gain consistent, practical speaking experience in safe settings. More than instruction, LLT provides human connection, culturally responsive support, confidence through real conversation, free flexible access, and a scalable volunteer model that reduces both language barriers and isolation.
LLT provides relationship-based English conversation programs that reduce isolation and build confidence. Women gain skills to pursue work and education, advocate for their families, and engage in their communities. Consistent connection improves well-being and belonging. As of today, over 700 learners and 460 volunteers are active in our programs; by August 2026, we expect that more than 1,000 women and 700 volunteers will be participating, strengthening families and communities nationwide.
