Born to Succeed targets 180 women (age 18-30) in 3 of the highest poverty stricken provinces in South Africa. The project will empower women by helping them improve their English skills to proficient level so that they can ultimately enter the work market and provide for their families sustainably. Collaboration with private sector partners have ensured that approximately 94% of all Born to Succeed graduates have been employed after completion of the programme over the past 3 years.
The current youth (18-34) unemployment rate in South Africa is 52.71% and projected to stay around the 52% mark for the next fiscal year and well into 2020. While this data point is dreadful, it is the sad realities lived by our unemployed youth; especially women, that is far more ominous. A lack of strong English language skills is one of the main contributors to the high unemployment rate. Women are unable to find work and they (and their families) live in extreme poverty as a result thereof.
The project will empower women by helping them improve their English skills to a proficient level so that they can ultimately enter the work market and provide for their families sustainably. Born to Succeed will assist the women in applying for work with their new found skill set. Collaboration with private sector partners have ensured that approximately 94% of all Born to Succeed graduates have been employed after completion of the programme over the past 3 years.
