Dear Friends,
Financial independence and ability to take decisions are essentials in the journey to emancipate and empower young women. IDEA’s 6 day Entrepreneurial Development Programme (EDP) is a step in that direction. The EDP is conducted for young women who have completed skill development courses in Tailoring/ Beautician/ Catering and who want to start their own businesses.
EDP conducted at IDEA’s Advanced Training center
Last month, a 6 days EDP training was organised and conducted for 25 women participants from an underprivileged community in Pune.
These sessions conducted by highly experienced resource persons which covered topics like Social media marketing, business planning, understanding enterprise formation, life skills for enterprise management, understanding enterprise initiation process (market survey, legalities, financial management, costing, pricing), preparing inventory and business records.
The participants were highly motivated to start their own businesses. 4 women came together to form an enterprise on the last day of the programme. The rest decided to go solo.
Self Help Groups (SHGs) – An excellent support system
At the EDP sessions, women are also given an orientation regarding the benefits of SHGs. They are urged to form SHGs based on mutual trust and interests.
A SHG cluster training was conducted by an organisation named Chaitanya, one of the pioneers of community based micro finance institutions in Maharashtra, India. The training included sessions and field visits where the team observed first-hand the workings of an established SHG. This gave them a better understanding and useful insights into SHG formation, its functions rules, keeping records etc.
Friends, please donate to this project to ensure financial support to women SHGs!
