Overview
Through your generous donations and in-kind support, we are transforming lives in the communities we serve. In partnership with the EssilorLuxottica Foundation, DeckerMed Africa Trust integrated a community eye health clinic into our Neglected Women’s Diseases (NWD) Medical Camp held in Embu County.

This eye camp focused on providing essential vision services to underserved women, children, and men—many of whom had never accessed professional eye care in their lifetime.

Impact Summary

Over two days of dedicated screening, the following outcomes were achieved:

Total Patients Screened: 152

Prescriptions Issued: 107

Cataract Cases Identified: 12 (Referred for further evaluation and treatment)

Most Common Diagnosis: Presbyopia

Diagnosis Breakdown

The most frequently diagnosed conditions during the camp included:

Presbyopia: The most prevalent condition, especially among women over 40.

Cataracts: 12 cases were identified; all patients were referred for surgical review.

Refractive Errors: Including hyperopia and astigmatism, contributing to poor near and distance vision.

Allergic Conjunctivitis: A common issue, particularly among children.

Other Diagnoses:

Pterygium

Bacterial Conjunctivitis

Post-Meningitis Surgery Effects

Emmetropia (Normal Vision)

Conclusion & Gratitude

This eye camp provided not just medical support but restored hope and dignity to many who had resigned themselves to poor or fading vision. For elderly women, the ability to see clearly again meant renewed independence. For children, it meant a better chance to succeed in school.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to our donors and partners for making this impact possible. Your support goes beyond numbers—it gives light to those who have lived in darkness for too long.

We look forward to scaling this initiative to other counties as part of our mission to bring accessible and integrated healthcare to the most vulnerable.
