Neglected Ophthalmic Diseases (NOD) are a silent crisis in Kenya, causing avoidable blindness and worsening poverty in underserved communities. DeckerMed Africa Trust integrates eye care into free medical camps, providing screenings, treatment, corrective lenses, and education. With over 3,000 lives impacted, we aim to expand to six counties in 2025. Your support helps restore sight, independence, and dignity to thousands who would otherwise go untreated. Join us in making a difference!
In Kenya rural and low-income populations are most at risk of Neglected Ophthalmic Diseases owing to limited access to specialized eye care services, inadequate health infrastructure, and a lack of public awareness about eye health. The burden of these diseases is exacerbated by poverty, poor sanitation, and insufficient preventive healthcare systems.
Our project tackles Neglected Ophthalmic Diseases (NOD) through a five-pronged approach integrated into our free medical camps. We conduct screenings using portable digital devices for early detection, provide onsite treatment and referrals for advanced care, and distribute corrective lenses to restore vision. Additionally, we offer preventive education on eye health and train local healthcare workers to ensure sustainable, long-term impact in underserved communities.
Our project reduces preventable blindness, boosts economic productivity, and enhances education by restoring sight. By training healthcare workers, we strengthen the healthcare system and promote long-term sustainability. Community education fosters early diagnosis and preventive care, while strong partnerships improve eye care access. Scalable and replicable, our model transforms lives, empowering individuals and communities to thrive with better vision and health.
