“In whatever form it takes, gender-based violence is an intolerable violation of human dignity. No one can quantify the personal pain and anguish of any form of abuse.” - Hillary Clinton
Violence against women and girls is one of the most pervasive human rights issues of our time - but I don’t really have to tell you that. You already know. You probably also already know about how widespread rape and gender-based violence is in countries like India and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The current reality is bleak, but the opportunity to make a difference and change this reality is simple.
The United States Government is a major supporter of poverty and humanitarian programs worldwide, but these investments could do much more to benefit women and girls who are victims of violence. This is where need your help: sign our petition urging Secretary of State, John Kerry to Prioritize Reducing Violence Against Women and Girls.
As Ritu Sharma, President and co-Founder of Women Thrive Worldwide, says in her recent Huffington Post article on gender based violence, “No single policy or piece of legislation will wipe out gender-based violence in one fell swoop. But each action we take adds to the cumulative tide of meaningful change.” Please add your name to the petition and help us make a change.
