End teenage pregnancy campaign in Zombo,Uganda

By Otingcwinyu Godfred | Founder and Executive Director

In our primary effort to end teenage pregnancy, our advocacy campaign through sensitization engaged directly with 150 girls aged between 14-18years and also 80 boy child in the past 3months,empowering them with knowledge and championing them to help break generational gender stereotypes, negative social gender norms  and myths which significantly contributes to the rampant teenage pregnancy cases in the region. We also held a sesison on Comprehensive sexuality education(CSE) in one Primary school.

Out of the 150 girls and the 80 boys that we engaged with directly,we appointed  10  most active girls and 05 boys respectively, forming a team of champions on Teenage regnancy to ensure continuity of campaign and transfer of knowledge from one community to the other for sustainability of services/work.In the next months,we target over 500 boys and girls both in schools and out of schools to ensure inclusion and holistic empowerment, done through school visits and Comprehensive sexuality education and training of senior women teachers and expert mothers in communities  to help guide young people,so as we achieve a community free from Teenage pregnancies.

TESTIMONY,SUCCESS STORY OF ONE OF THE YOUNG CHAMPION.AGARTHA AGED 11.

"At first I thought its impossible at my age 11 to give solutions to challenges facing my community, especially girls because I grew up knowing it's a taboo for a girl child to speak and point out issues affecting the community including herself, not until i got equiped and fully championed by Hope Vineyard Foundation Uganda with vital knowledge, skills required to challenge all stereotypes, gender norms, myths that for long have set barriers causing inequality in gender,Thanks to HVFUG,now I have the self esteem to speak for other girls and also inspire them to speak over matters that affect them,Iam trully glad for this light that is shining now,i believe the future will now be brighter than i see.

We now seek to expand our reach through the engagement of key stakeholders, including policymakers, cultural and religious leaders, young champions using intergenerational and interreligious dialogue approach, meant to gather insights and diversity of ideas that can aid in  change of policies  and enforceable national and  bylaws, creating opportunity for everlasting solutions from the differents perspectives.

"With your support we can do even better than this"
