Recent News from Lanta Animal Welfare

Stevie and Wonder
Stevie and Wonder

All of us at Lanta Animal Welfare are so grateful for your continuing support.  For this report, I thought I'd take the opportunity to share some recent happenings at Lanta Animal Welfare (LAW).  I'll start with a simple rescue of some seriously impacted kittens, then move to a volunteer's experience, and then on to our education initiative.

Stevie and Wonder, recent kitten rescues

These two kittens were rescued during a mobile sterilization clinic on Koh Phi Phi, a nearby island. They had a severe flu virus that affect their eyesight. One kitten is blind, and the other is partially sighted.  We will continue to care for these desperate felines.

The hope of adoption is slim for Stevie and Wonder, as they will need constant and continuious care throughout their precious lives.  At least they have each other, and of course, they have us.  I've attached a photo, but also a short video, so they can capture your hearts.

The Volunteer Experience at Lanta Animal Welfare

Tara volunteered at Lanta Animal Welfare (LAW) for two months. After her first week at LAW she got to know some of the animals. One dog stood out to her. She had been told that Bronwyn was shy and not that comfortable around people. After hearing this Tara decided to make it her little mission to see if Bronwyn could trust her enough to be friends and grow her confidence.

Spending time with Bronwyn, grew their friendship grew. Bronwyn went from being a dog that was shy and reserved, to one of the most affectionate and loving dogs Tara has ever met.

Hard work and love turned Bronwyn around. That is what volunteering at LAW is all about. Interested in volunteering? Visit our website to find out more.

Watch their faces light up....

At Lanta Animal Welfare, we believe that change starts with education. Over the past month, we have had visits from three different schools on the Island. The children were brilliant listeners and learned about the work that is done here to help animals and also that all animals should be respected and treated kindly.

During their visits, the children made toys for the animals, went on a guided tour, and cuddled our cats in Kitty City. They all got involved with different activities and asked great questions! The schools also created their own fundraisers to help treat, rehabilitate and sterilize suffering animals.

We warmly welcome school visits and families to the centre to learn about animal welfare so that they can inspire future generation.
