This project will support 1,000 Maasai women in Serengeti through microcredit loans and business training. The program aims to reduce poverty and improve household income in rural communities.Women will receive financial support to start small businesses and expand existing activities. The project focuses on empowering women through entrepreneurship, savings groups, and financial literacy. According to World Bank data, access to finance for rural women helps improve economic development.
Many Maasai women in Serengeti live in extreme poverty with limited economic opportunities. Most women cannot access bank loans because they lack collateral and formal financial records. Low levels of education and business knowledge limit women's ability to grow sustainable businesses. Rural communities are affected by unemployment, food insecurity, and climate-related hardships. The World Bank highlights that women in rural Africa remain financially excluded from economic growth opportunities.
The project will provide microcredit loans ranging from $20 to $1,000 to women entrepreneurs. Women will receive training in business management, savings, budgeting, and financial literacy. The loans will support activities such as livestock keeping, beadwork, tailoring, farming, and food vending. Community savings groups will encourage accountability, cooperation, and loan repayment. Local leaders and women's associations will help monitor and support the success of the program.
Women will increase their income and improve living conditions for their families and children. The project will strengthen local businesses and create sustainable economic opportunities in Serengeti. Children from participating households will benefit from improved nutrition, healthcare, and education. Women will gain confidence, leadership skills, and greater participation in community development. The initiative will contribute to long-term economic empowerment among Maasai women and families
