Like an African common saying that "a stitch in time , saves nine". Baby "S" was an eighteen month old Male beneficiary of our Rural health outreach, who was saved from mortality by our swift intervention. He presented with a deep abcess on his left thigh, looking emanciated with a high grade fever. Mother said he has not fed well for about 3 days since the fever started. All local measures taken proved abortive as the conditions refused to improve. The baby boy was examined by one of our medical officers on sit. Later sent to our medical laboratory team, where he was tested positive for malaria parasite with other signs of possible sepsis. His treatment commenced immediately and he was stabilised. Other children who also presented with emergency febrile conditions and also tested positive for malaria parasite were stabilised and treated. Mothers were equally educated on care and prevention of childhood illnesses.
Lack of access to quality healthcare services in remote and grassroots settlements, remains a big challenge in Nigeria. Health care outreaches and mobile clinics have proven effective in reaching the underserved and the unreached to enhance early diseases diagnosis, prevent both childhood and adults mortality; for a quality and productive lives.
Oak Rural Health Organization has reached thousands of rural people in her various health interventions. Thus, a number of mortality has been averted. There is a lot of activities embedded in our project "end malaria malnutrition, save a child "(MaMaH).
