Afghanistan remains one of the most difficult places in the world to be a child. With an estimated 4.2 million children out of school, 60% of whom are girls, access to education continues to be an uphill battle. For many of these children, the dream of completing even primary school is far from reality.
Despite the ongoing challenges and lack of external funding in the past 6 quarters, our commitment has not wavered. We are continuing our work on the ground with limited resources, driven by the belief that every child deserves a chance to learn.
Funding Status:
We would like to transparently share that no funding was received in the last 6 quarters through GlobalGiving. While this has created several operational and logistical challenges, we are determined to continue our mission. We have been working through volunteer support, local donations, and cost-saving strategies to ensure progress, even if it is at a slower pace.
Project Activities and Progress:
Continued volunteer outreach and engagement in multiple communities.
Basic orientation and mentoring are provided to local volunteer teachers, even in the absence of full training resources.
Community mobilization efforts to keep education on the agenda and encourage local ownership of learning spaces.
Planning and preparatory work for the distribution of one-room school startup kits once resources allow (each kit includes 2 whiteboards and 40 mini chalkboards).
Challenges Faced:
Lack of funding has weakened our ability to roll out school startup kits and conduct structured teacher training at scale.
Security concerns in certain regions have affected access and community mobilization.
Logistical barriers in sourcing and distributing educational materials due to limited transportation and supply chains.
Burnout risk among unpaid volunteers who are committed but overextended.
Our Continued Commitment:
The Global Education Campaign remains steadfast in our mission to reach 100,000 out-of-school children through volunteer-run, one-room schools. Education is not just a human right—it is a lifeline for Afghanistan’s future. We are confident that with renewed support, we can restore momentum and scale up our work.
Looking Ahead:
We continue to seek strategic partnerships, funding, and in-kind contributions to expand our impact. With your support, we can:
Distribute school kits to launch 2,500 one-room schools.
Train hundreds of volunteer teachers in basic pedagogy and child protection.
Provide community-based literacy opportunities that directly support girls and boys in underserved regions.
Thank You:
To all our existing and potential supporters—your support means the world to the children of Afghanistan. Every act, every voice, and every stand with solidarity helps keep the dream of education alive. We urge you to stand with us in this mission to end illiteracy and empower a generation.
