Dear Donors,

For many women journalists in Nigeria, reporting the news comes with risks that go beyond the demands of their profession. Threats, sexual harassment, online abuse, and intimidation can make it difficult for them to do their jobs safely. Some are forced to remain silent out of fear of retaliation or losing their careers.

No woman should have to choose between her safety and her right to report the truth.

At Clarion Times Foundation, we launched End Gender-Based Violence Against Women Journalists to help women working in the media access the protection and support they deserve.

Where We Are Today

Our project is still in its early stages, with needs assessment ongoing to better understand the challenges women journalists face and the support they require.

We have not yet secured sufficient funding to begin our planned activities, which include safety training, digital security assistance, legal support, counseling referrals, and emergency assistance for women journalists experiencing violence or harassment.

The findings from our assessment will help us determine where support is most needed and how to direct our available resources.

Our Next Steps

We will continue assessing the needs of women journalists while seeking the resources required to begin project activities. Our goal is to help women report safely, seek assistance when threatened, and continue their careers without fear.

Although implementation has not yet begun, we remain focused on the women this project hopes to serve.

Thank You for Your Support

We sincerely appreciate everyone who has taken an interest in this project. Your encouragement means a great deal to us.

We look forward to sharing further updates as our assessment progresses and we prepare for the next stage of our work.

Every woman journalist deserves to work safely, freely, and without intimidation.

With sincere gratitude,

Sipho D. Mfanekiso
