As part of the Empowerment of Dalit Women in India project implemented by Dalit Solidarity, one milk cow was distributed to Mrs. Muniyammal, a Dalit widow who is an active member of our Thalirgal Self-Help Group (SHG) on Jan 13, 2026. She was identified through community members and SHG coordinators, based on her economic vulnerability and willingness to engage in sustainable livelihood activities. The cow was handed over in the presence of SHG members and local coordinators, along with basic guidance on cattle care, feeding, and hygiene practices.
This intervention aims to provide a stable source of income and nutritional security for the widow and her family. The beneficiary has begun using the milk for household consumption and selling surplus milk locally, generating regular income to meet daily needs and support her children’s education. This has enhanced her self-reliance, dignity, and confidence, while also reinforcing the role of SHGs in promoting economic empowerment and social inclusion among Dalit women.
