A Path Toward Dignity, Equality, and Self-Reliance

By Mahimai Raja A S | Project Leader

Dalit women in India face deep-rooted discrimination on multiple fronts—caste, gender, and poverty. At Dalit Solidarity, we believe that true transformation begins when women from the most marginalized communities are empowered with the tools to shape their own futures. Our programs are designed to uplift, educate, and equip these women to lead lives of dignity and independence.

Holistic Empowerment Through Skill, Support, and Solidarity

Our development initiatives focus on long-term empowerment rather than temporary relief. The programs are active across several villages in Tamil Nadu and include:

Skill Development Workshops: Women receive training in tailoring, handicrafts, organic farming, and small business management, enabling them to generate income and support their families.

Health and Hygiene Awareness: Sessions on women’s health, reproductive rights, and access to medical care empower women to take control of their physical well-being.

Leadership and Legal Literacy: Training in basic rights, local governance, and legal protection equips women to stand up against injustice and become community advocates.

Self-Help Groups (SHGs): Dalit women come together in small groups to save money, access micro-loans, and start income-generating activities—fostering financial literacy and collective strength.

Measurable Impact

  • Over 120 women trained in income-generating skills in the past two years
  • 50+ women-led micro-enterprises now operating successfully
  • A growing network of Self-Help Groups fostering economic and emotional support
  • Increased enrollment of girls in schools, as empowered mothers prioritize education

Stories of Change

Rani, a widow with two children, once struggled to make ends meet as a manual laborer. After joining a tailoring program, she now runs a small sewing business from her home and earns a steady income. More importantly, she has regained confidence, dignity, and a voice in her community.

Building the Future Together

We are committed to expanding our reach to 250 women by 2026, offering more advanced vocational training, seed funding for startups, and stronger advocacy support. Every step forward by these women is a stride toward a more just and equal India.
