Empower Women Scientists in Developing Countries

At Apadrina la Ciencia, we believe that talent is everywhere, but opportunities are not. Every day, brilliant women scientists in developing countries face barriers that limit their ability to grow, innovate, and contribute to solving some of the world's most pressing challenges. Thanks to your generosity, we can help change that reality.

Today, we would like to introduce you to one of the researchers whose journey has been made possible through the support of people like you.

Since May, a young scientist from the Federal University of ABC in Brazil has been carrying out a postdoctoral research stay at the Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (Generalitat de Cataluña, Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas, Universidad de Barcelona) in Spain, working in the research group led by Dr. Mónica Lira-Cantú. Her work focuses on developing new materials that could contribute to cleaner and more sustainable technologies in the future.

During the first stage of her project, she successfully created and analyzed a new family of innovative materials that could one day be used in applications related to renewable energy and other emerging technologies. These materials are particularly promising because they may offer safer and more environmentally friendly alternatives to substances currently used in some advanced technologies.

The next phase of her work will focus on transforming these materials into thin layers that can be incorporated into devices. This is one of the aspects of the research stay that excites her the most, as the group at ICN2 has extensive expertise in the fabrication of thin films and solar-cell devices, an area in which she is eager to develop new skills and gain hands-on experience.

The knowledge and skills she is gaining in Spain will not only advance her own career but will also be shared with colleagues and students when she returns to Brazil, multiplying the impact of your support.

Looking ahead, her goal is to continue advancing the project and generate results that can be published in an international scientific journal, contributing to global scientific knowledge and strengthening research capacity in her home country.

But beyond the scientific achievements, this experience has had a profound personal impact for K. Kariny Ferreira Barbosa:

De Brasil a España: Tu apoyo impulsa la ciencia

Estimado/as amigo/as:

Esperamos que os encontréis bien y que hayáis disfrutado de un maravilloso verano.

En Apadrina la Ciencia creemos que el talento está en todas partes, pero las oportunidades no. Cada día, brillantes mujeres científicas de países en vías de desarrollo se enfrentan a barreras que limitan su capacidad para crecer, innovar y contribuir a resolver algunos de los desafíos más importantes de nuestro tiempo. Gracias a vuestra generosidad, podemos ayudar a cambiar esa realidad.

Hoy queremos presentaros a una de las investigadoras cuyo camino ha sido posible gracias al apoyo de donantes como vosotros/as.

Desde mayo, una joven científica de la Universidad Federal del ABC de Brasil está realizando una estancia de investigación posdoctoral en el Instituto de Nanociencia y Nanotecnología (Generalitat de Cataluña, Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas, Universidad de Barcelona) en España, trabajando en el grupo de investigación liderado por la Dra. Mónica Lira-Cantú. Su trabajo se centra en el desarrollo de nuevos materiales para contribuir a tecnologías más limpias y sostenibles en el futuro.

Durante la primera etapa de su proyecto, ha logrado sintetizar y analizar con éxito una nueva familia de materiales innovadores para aplicaciones relacionadas con las energías renovables y otras tecnologías emergentes. Estos materiales son especialmente prometedores porque podrían ofrecer alternativas más seguras y respetuosas con el medio ambiente que algunos de los compuestos que se utilizan actualmente en tecnologías avanzadas.

La siguiente fase de su trabajo se centrará en transformar estos materiales en capas delgadas que puedan incorporarse a dispositivos. Este es uno de los aspectos de la estancia que más le entusiasma, ya que el grupo del ICN2 cuenta con una amplia experiencia en la fabricación de películas delgadas y dispositivos para células solares, un área en la que desea adquirir nuevas competencias y experiencia práctica.

Los conocimientos y habilidades que está adquiriendo en España no solo impulsarán su propia carrera científica, sino que también serán compartidos con colegas y estudiantes cuando regrese a Brasil, multiplicando así el impacto de este tipo de ayuda.

De cara al futuro, su objetivo es seguir avanzando en el proyecto y generar resultados que puedan publicarse en una revista científica internacional, contribuyendo al conocimiento científico global y fortaleciendo la capacidad investigadora en su país de origen.

Pero más allá de los logros científicos, esta experiencia ha tenido un profundo impacto personal para K. Kariny Ferreira Barbosa:
