Summary

The rights of women and girls in Mexico need to be guaranteed. For more than 30 years, Fondo Semillas has been the only feminist fund in Mexico. Our mission is to contribute to gender equality and fair social change by providing economic resources, institutional strengthening, and training for groups of low-income women leaders in their communities. Fondo Semillas knows that the leadership of women is essential to achieve a more just and equitable society.

Challenge

The fight for women's rights hasn't had strong financial backing. This makes it difficult to maintain the activism and visibility of the different types of gender-based violence. Fondo Semillas recognizes that, without economic resources, the possibilities of working to transform Mexican women's lives, diminish. Resources allow organized women to have autonomy and make decisions, without worrying about not having sufficient resources to do their gender equality work.

Solution

Fondo Semillas supports the mobilization of resources focused on women's issues and organizations with limited access to funds, strengthens social movements, and focuses on consolidates organizational capacity to guarantee the sustainability of the work. In this sense, our partner organizations can influence and transform the culture of local philanthropy, generate knowledge about gender equality and women's rights, and create long-term impact since they are attacking the roots of inequality.

Long-Term Impact

Fondo Semillas works to structurally combat and change the conditions of injustice and inequality experienced by women in Mexico. The women we serve identify their needs, organize themselves and their communities and propose solutions to the problems they face. Fondo Semillas provides them with financial resources, training, accompaniment, and capacity building. We also help them approach other donors, networks, and alliances, as well as take advantage of strategic opportunities.
