Dear GlobalGiving and Donors,

Our project (Empowering the Girl through Education) is a life changing activity which has done a lot by improving the lives of girls in rural Sierra Leone more especially the Northern Region. Our project has gained popularity amongst girls due to its major contributions and life changing activities for girls. Our project has give voice to girl children, give rights and power to Girls has been the bedrock of this project since its inception, which has really put a lot of smiles into the faces of a lot of girls.

This project has engaged in a lot of activities ranging from ending early and forceful marriages, teenage pregnancy campaigns, protect and guide to choose a career path, advocacy and relief exercise. Within the past months it has gain a lot of success stories. We have able to end 20 marriages and take further actions against perpetrators. Also, our campaign has engaged authorities in enforcing the laws which has to do with early and forceful marriages.

Our continued supports to 250 girls who were force to get marriage still continues and these affected girls need to continue their education for another academic year. Girls supported were able to be agents of change in their communities, raising awareness of the importance of girls’ right, accessing education and training. Also, girls who were stopped from being early mothers, join their peers in advocacy, using themselves as an example of change.  Their peers were touched by the campaign words of ending teenage pregnancy and early child marriage. Also, our campaign has joined the country First lady with a campaign message “Hands Off our girls”. With these efforts it has put smiles again into the faces of these girl children.

Furthermore, 38 schools were visited with message “Hands Off our Girls” this message sends shock waves to these communities and traditional leaders summoned themselves into urgent meetings to support the claims of these girls. The campaign message was well greeted and gains a lot of momentum.

This strategy really pays off as many girls who were victims of early and forceful marriages have return back to school. These girls have been enrolled, admitted and provided with educational facilities. These girls were provided with different support such as uniforms, tuition fees, bags, pen, pencils, vest and books. Teen mothers were provided with baby used items. These girls were also provided with food and non food items.

The rural poor communities are facing serious Harmful Practices and our project has taken stiff measures on providing justice for victims. The prevalence of the Harmful Practices against girls, especially FGM and child marriage in Sierra Leone are among the highest in the world. Our message about FGM is wait until a girl turn 18 before she could decide on what to do.

The fulfillment of women’s and girls’ rights is challenged by communities’ norms that maintain the status quo and stereotypes about men, women, girls and boys and their respective roles in society.

Our outreach programme helped us to discover more girls who cannot access education and other rights. The urgent needs that were discovered are books, uniforms, backpacks, sanitary pads, shoes and transport facility and other school charges. This has been a barrier to access and retain in schools. There is an economic and social change which has increased costs since after the general elections in 2018 due to the high inflation in the country, parents and foster care givers prefer to send their girl child to the farm than attend school. In these visited communities poverty is really visible and one can feel it, which has lead these children into illegal practices like prostitution, gender-based violence and early marriages, girls and women are deep suffering. Poverty has been the bedrock for early and forceful marriages and we discovered the negative impact levied on these children.

The outreach programme reveals more teenage pregnancies, high dropout rate, women battering, an increase in forceful marriages practices in hidden communities, inadequate provision of daily needs and abuse of Child’s Rights.

We appreciate our supports and GlobalGiving for this opportunity to help these girls. There is a lot to do but we cannot do it without your continued supports.

Dear GlobalGiving and Partners,

Empowering the Girl through Education Project is a life changing activity which has impacted a lot of lives for girls in rural Sierra Leone more especially the Northern Region. This project has become more popular due to its role in the lives of these girl-children, given rights and empowering these Girls has been the bedrock of this project, which has helped lot of girls regain their lost dignities.

The recent visit from GlobalGiving to our project sites made us realize that much needs to be done in terms of awareness raising about the felt needs of these beneficiaries. Though, the project has created a lot of impact but more needs to be done and also to better inform our donors about the growing demands of these beneficiaries we cater for. Our guest from globalgiving also visited an orphanage primary school run by the organisation which really needs attention to further continue its operations. The guest further held host of interviews with our beneficiaries and capture a lot of information which triggered her to commend all our work and your value contributions.

Our focus on rescuing these girls who has been engaged in forceful and early child marriages, teenage pregnancy, has increase considerable, due to the very fact that new strategies has been employed by the organisation to tackle such occurrences.

As our advocacy continues, we have identified 290 girls affected that need to continue their education. What we did to identify these girls, we used the supported ones to help their friends to come forward. Also, girls who were stopped from being early mothers, join their peers in advocacy, using themselves as an example of change.

Furthermore, 50 schools were visited with messages of “I am a girl, Not a Bride” this message sends shock waves to these communities and traditional leaders.

Also, we join a national campaign called “Hands off our girls” this was launched by the country first lady. This was done after a police report shows that over 8500 girls were raped within a month. And the report further said that these figures are twice double than the once reported. And we further visited a rainbow center, where we met some of these girls and their stories were really touching. With this national cry Government declared the situation as “national Emergency”. Our campaign now is to advocate to law maker to increase punishment for perpetuators.

We really appreciate the support from donors to this project. Your supports have really put a lot of smiles into the faces of these girls.

These communities are facing serious Harmful Practices and our project has taken stiff measures on providing justice for victims. The prevalence of the Harmful Practices against girls, especially FGM and child marriage in Sierra Leone are among the highest in the world.

We wish to extend thanks to you as one of our generous supporters, who have worked with us to meet the need of our beneficiaries. Our heartfelt thanks goes to GlobalGiving and all our supporters for making this project a success.  Your partnership, donations, love and concerns, means a lot to us. We love you very much.

We cannot achieve this alone but with your support this can be achieved. We are still looking forward to your support in making this possible.

    Dear GlobalGiving, Donors,

We are very much grateful for spearing your valuable time to go through this letter of acknowledgement, thanks and appreciation for your tremendous contributions which has brought a lot of change in the lives of our beneficiaries. With your contribution we have enjoyed a season of love, concern and care which has foster a lot of change in the lives of these less fortunate. We are marvel with your social and humanitarian contribution towards these children, their families and The Needy Today. This has really speaks volumes in the lives of these children.

Your roles have been fascinated since you opted to join GlobalGiving Foundation in helping meaningful projects like ours. Some of these viable causes like ours do not attract major funding, but they are more real than even the ones that do. GlobalGiving has made the cries of these less fortunate be heard. Your contributions means the whole world to us, which has lift the poor out of poverty, give voice to the voiceless, agitate for the oppress,  and creating and building bridges together for a better world. Your donations have made dropping out of school is no longer a reality within our areas of operations, continued campaign on ending early child marriages, FGM, Gender based violence, trained community volunteer to report on early child marriages, monitoring litigation on rape cases for minors in high courts

Our quest for success was far fetched until you came around to support these causes by contributing your hard earning money and suggestions. From the depth of our hearts, we sincerely appreciate all your major contributions both recurring and one off. Even those who didn’t contribute financially but help create awareness about these causes, you are well appreciated from the bottom of our hearts.

You are truly a special partner to us, for putting smiles into the faces of these beneficiaries. Also, you have decided to support our mission and vision which is well appreciated, because of this we shall forever remain grateful to you and rest of your families for your unending love you continue to manifest. You are really one in a million, despite all the important things you have to address like family issues, cars, fuel, food, housing, etc you still squeeze and make a meaningful donation. In spite of this tight economy we live, you still create a way to be a blessing to these less fortunate.  Your support has been really great especially creating more awareness by letting others know about our causes.

We called you friends and partners because we share common goals and ambition in helping these beneficiaries. Because of your contributions a lot has been blessed and we will continue to appreciate you endlessly for your countless support.

I was actually pondering if you were not here with us to achieve this huge success and brining a lot of smiles into the faces of these beneficiaries. How exactly it should have been without you. God will reward you abundantly for such sacrifices in helping these children regain their lost glory. Because of this and all that you intend doing God in heaven will bless you and all that concerns you.

Our huge concern at the moment is that Sierra Leone is seriously battling with what has been described as a silent epidemic of sexual and gender based violence. According to a recent police statistics its clearly shows that 8500 girls has been sexually abused. The report further said that the figures are twice the ones reported, because plenty of these cases are kept under the carpet. The government has declared it as a national emergency which requires urgent actions be taken. As an organisation working tirelessly against sexual violence and gender based issues, we deemed it fit to go into action but we cannot achieve this alone without your support. Our quest to partner with you stems from the very fact that you have passion to put an end to such practices.

We will continue to update you about our achievement and how your monies are spent. On behalf of ‘The Needy Today’, we want to say a big thank you for your supports, donations and unending love you continue to manifest. We cannot sit down silently by failing to wish you happy Easter and God’s richest blessings.

Furthermore, our campaigns are online and they need more support to meet the needs of poverty stricken children left behind, to access their basic rights and achieve great success. Base on this, we are still counting on you to continue your support and help us tell others about our work and what we have achieve so far.

We are really short of words to express our gratitude but God will surely reward you bountifully.

    Respectfully yours,

    James Mansaray

    Dear GlobalGiving and Partners,

Empowering the Girl through Education Project is a life changing activity which is improving the lives of girls in rural Sierra Leone more especially the Northern Region. Throughout 2018, we have been focusing on rescuing these girls who has been engaged in forceful and early child marriages, teenage pregnancy, also guided, protected and supported through development, advocacy and relief.

250 girls affected need to continue their education for another academic year has started.

In another development,  32 schools were visited with messages of “I am a girl, Not a Bride” this message sends shock waves to these communities and traditional leaders summoned themselves into urgent meetings to support the claims of these girls. The campaign message was well greeted and gains a lot of momentum.

Also, we organized an event called “He for She” were boys advocating for girls in over 30 communities. They stand in the gap to advocate for girls in these communities. Boys who were mentored during the event, were supported to reach other boys, on one to one meetings with the message “Hands off our girls”.

These girls were also provided with food and non items during the holiday period.

The support from donors to this project is well appreciated. Donations from GlobalGiving Foundation, its donors, friends and partners contributed and received were used to support the areas of need for girls to access and retain in schools, and to give voice to girls, to be change agents, against issues affecting them.

The rural poor communities are facing serious Harmful Practices and our project has taken stiff measures on providing justice for victims. The prevalence of the Harmful Practices against girls, especially FGM and child marriage in Sierra Leone are among the highest in the world.

The fulfillment of women’s and girls’ rights is challenged by communities’ norms that maintain the status quo and stereotypes about men, women, girls and boys and their respective roles in society.

During our outreach programme a lot was discovered, more girls were identified to access education and other rights. The urgent needs that were discovered are exercise books, uniforms, backpacks, sanitary pads, shoes and transport facility and other school charges. This has been a barrier to access and retain in schools. There is an economic and social change which has increased costs since after the general elections in 2018 due to the fluctuation of the foreign exchange, rise in food commodities. At the moment there is a huge presence of extreme poverty, which has led poor parents and their children into illegal practices which includes prostitution, gender-based violence and early marriages, girls and women are deep suffering.

In many communities visited, Girls outreach programme reveals more teenage pregnancies, high dropout rate, women battering, an increase in forceful marriages practices in hidden communities, inadequate provision of daily needs and abuse of Child’s Rights. Sierra Leone as a country, is now experiencing challenges that needs to be address. Though it is a daunting task for it to be address at this moment.

We wish to extend thanks to you as one of our generous supporters, who have worked with us to meet the need of beneficiaries. Our heartfelt thanks goes to GlobalGiving and all our supporters for making this project a success.  Your partnership, donations, love and concerns, means a lot to us. We love you very much.

    Dear Donor and GlobalGiving,

In our quest for support in the fight against Early Child Marriages, Female genital Mutilation, End girls dropping out of school, The Global Giving Foundation has really helped by closing gaps that hinders girls’ education and socio-economic status. There role has been very great and unique (GlobalGiving) which has helped a lot. The fund received, supports 105 children and 5 teachers in different ways. The other supporters funds were used in addition to GlobalGiving Foundation on field events, community engagements, school visitations, provided 50 uniforms, 50 packets of books, pencils, pens etc

Funds provided were used to gain the following results below:

    • The empowered girls dramatically continue to improve their wellbeing and their communities through involvement in awareness raising campaigns.

    • Girl-children are empowered with voices to avoid child marriage, teenage pregnancy and awareness of the important of schooling

    • These children were help to get improved health and nutrition, and increase the chances of education for the next generation.

    • Increasing the level of Awareness raising involving girls and boys, against child marriages, teenage pregnancy, girl-child labour in homes and farm and FGM in schools and communities.

    • Engaging the communities through dialogue, meetings and focus group discussion with parents and general stakeholders including the government’s social welfare ministry to end child marriage, poor parenting, discrimination, neglect, stigmatization, continues in 20 communities.

    • We were able to organized training for community based volunteers to improve their knowledge towards our quest in the fight against child marriages, FGM, child labour, girl-child dropping out of school etc

    • Drama play continues to educate these communities and relevant stakeholder about the important of sending their girl child to school. The play is doing a lot by changing the fixed perception of parents about the girl child in the northern region.

    • Due to our continuous efforts, more communities are seeking our intervention, but this cannot be achieved alone, with collaborated efforts it will reach a greater height. We are calling on our donors to continue their supports, which will enable us achieve better results.

More support will enable the TNT Scholarship Fund to continue to support and provide basic needs for needy girls to access basic education and be agents of change to end child, early and forceful marriages, illiteracy, child poverty and traditional harmful practices; and to returns to schools, to champion their future progress and development.
