Fescah - 1 year later

By Fescah | Nyumbani Village Graduate

My name is Fescah, and I am a beneficiary of your generosity through the GlobalGiving fund.  After completing my Diploma course in Human Resource Management at Machakos University College in August 2015, I started looking for employment.  I sent many applications to different organizations hoping to get employed in a Human Resource department.  As I was waiting for an opportunity I got temporary employment to work as a clerk with Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission of Kenya (IEBC).  Even though the job was temporary I was happy to get the chance to join the working class so that I could get exposure and experience.  During my engagement with IEBC I kept applying for employment hoping to get permanent employment which would pay well with benefits.

One day I received a call for an interview from a petroleum company called Total Kenya.  This is one of the largest petroleum distributors in Kenya.  When the day came I woke up very early, dressed in my best clothes and set off for the interview.  When I arrived I was surprised to find so many other people targeting the same job.  I kept my fingers crossed that I would do well in the interview and that the company would be willing to give me a chance to serve.  Even though I was nervous I went through the interview without any issues.  When I returned home I kept praying that I would get employed by Total Kenya which was paying more than my current employer.

One Monday morning two weeks after the interview I received a call informing me that I had been selected to join Total Kenya in the capacity of a Customer Attendant.  I am very happy because I can now cater for all my needs and save some money with the hope of returning to school to undertake a degree course.  I still apply for jobs hoping to get a job that matches the course that I undertook.

I am very happy because GlobalGiving restored my dignity which had been stripped following the death of my parents.  I had lost hope but now I feel strong because I was given a chance to get tertiary education and hence be able to compete in the job market with other children who are fortunate to have parents.

My dream is not short because my vision is to be able to save enough to pay for my degree course so that I can continue advancing academically and be able to apply for higher level jobs.  I am hoping to be able to support my siblings so that they can relocate from Nyumbani Village and hence create room for Nyumbani Village to admit other destitute children.

To all the people who make Global Giving funding possible I wish to thank you most sincerely and assure that your funding is changing lives here in Kenya starting with mine.
