A Village Family for Kyende

By Kyende | Nyumbani Village resident

My name is Kyende. I was born in 1993 and am the last born of three siblings.

My parents contracted HIV and passed on in 2002. We were left hopeless, with no place to call home and with no means to take care of our basic needs. Our relatives discriminated against us owing to the fact our parents had suffered from HIV. We lived from hand to mouth and education was a distant dream to us. Our elderly grandmother who was a casual laborer took us in. The money she received from labor was not enough and at the age of 9, I joined her in earning our daily bread.  Even then, we would continously skip meals. 2006 was a particularly dark year for us, my grandmother who was our only source of  hope passed on.

In 2007, we were admitted to Nyumbani Village, which was the turning point in our lives. All our needs were taken care of- food, shelter, clothing, education and health. Words cannot describe how happy we were, we started to excel in our studies. I was enrolled in Montrose acadamey and I sat for my KCPE in 2011. I passed well and was admitted to Lawson High School.

In 2017, I joined college and I am currently in my second year at Nairobi Technical College undertaking a Diploma in Electrical Engineering. I attribute my success to Nyumbani Village and the home they provided us.

Nyumbani Village is family to me and my siblings now.  We no longer have to worry about where to get our next meal from. We have all our needs taken care of. I will forever remain indebted to Nyumbani and Global Giving for investing in us and our education. It is your generosity that has enabled me and my siblings to have a bright future.
