NDES seeks to raise funds to purchase a school bus for the NDES Institute of Technology in Buea, Cameroon. NDES aims to provide safe and reliable transportation for 20 orphaned schoolgirls residing in local orphanages to access quality education at the institute. Current lack of affordable and secure transportation options has created a significant barrier to education for these young girls, who face risks such as harassment, long travel times, and inconsistent public transportation.
The NDES Foundation currently spends a significant portion of its budget on transporting these girls from orphanages to the campus using public transportation. Public transportation in Buea is often unreliable, leading to delays and missed classes. Many orphanages are located in areas not well-served by public transport, making it even more challenging to coordinate regular and timely commutes to the campus
The bus will operate on a fixed schedule, ensuring that these girls arrive at the campus on time and return safely to their orphanages. A school bus service will eliminates the exposure of these young girls to the risks associated with public transport, creating a secure environment. Dedicated transportation solution will also encourage more girls in these orphanages to enroll at the Institute, knowing that a critical barrier has been removed.
With reliable transportation, these girls will be able to attend classes consistently and focus on their studies without the stress of uncertain commutes. By facilitating their education, the bus will play a vital role in breaking the cycle of poverty and opening up opportunities for these young women. As these girls graduate and contribute to society, the ripple effects of their education will positively impact their families and communities.
