The effects of the pandemic are far reaching and ever present, but Rising Minds is continuing to work diligently to provide supplemental services to schools in San Juan La Laguna. The pandemic has affected many aspects of our lives, including education. Guatemala has one of the lowest educational achievement levels in Central America and distant and remote learning as a result of the pandemic has significantly affected this. Although things have improved since 2020, there are still many lingering effects and inequities.
In efforts to combat some of the challenges, Rising Minds is working with San Juanerita to provide supplemental enrichment programming, such as social-emotional learning and English classes. This programming is highly sought after in efforts to accelerate learning for all students. Working with 4th, 5th, and 6th graders, we are delivering lessons related to physical, behavioral, and mental health and our weekly enrichment classes are providing students with the support they need to thrive in school and out of school.
