Empowering Girls, Ending the Shame: Menstrual Hygiene for All Workshop Report

*Location:* Ruth Elton Secondary School and Community Secondary School, Obangade, Kogi State
Introduction:
Buhknom Development Foundation conducted a Menstrual Hygiene for All workshop for 250 students from two schools in Obangade, Kogi State. The aim was to promote menstrual health, break stigma, and provide essential materials.
Objectives:
1. Educate students on proper menstrual hygiene practices.
2. Distribute sanitary pads and menstrual hygiene materials.
3. Assess current menstrual health practices.
Methodology:
1. Interactive workshop presentations.
2. Questionnaire-based assessment.
3. Distribution of sanitary pads, customized books, and biros.
Findings:
Menstrual Health Practices:
- 75% of students use clothes or makeshift materials as sanitary pads.
- 40% reported missing school due to lack of sanitary pads.
- 90% had limited knowledge on proper menstrual hygiene.
- 25% believed menstruation is shameful or embarrassing.
Demographic Statistics:
- Age range: 12-18 years.
- Female students: 220 (88%).
- Male students: 30 (12%).
Distribution of Materials:
- Sanitary pads: 500 units.
- Customized books: 250 copies.
- Biros: 250 units.
Impact:
1. Improved knowledge on menstrual hygiene practices.
2. Reduced stigma around menstruation.
3. Increased access to sanitary pads.
