In many rural Nigerian communities, grandmothers are raising vulnerable children without stable income or support. This project will empower 400 underserved grandmothers through livelihood training, small business support, and safe childcare assistance. By improving their economic stability and caregiving capacity, we will help children thrive in safer, healthier homes while restoring dignity and hope to elderly women.
Across Nigeria, many elderly grandmothers care for orphaned and vulnerable children despite living in extreme poverty. Without income, healthcare, or support systems, they struggle to provide food, education, and safe childcare. Rising economic hardship forces many children into neglect, hunger, and unsafe environments. Rural grandmothers are often overlooked, yet they remain the backbone of family survival and child protection.
This project will equip 400 rural grandmothers with vocational skills, startup grants, cooperative support, and childcare resources to strengthen household income and child well-being. Participants will receive training in small-scale farming, food processing, crafts, and financial literacy. We will also provide safe childcare support, mentoring, and community protection networks to improve the lives of both caregivers and children.
Our long-term goal is to create self-reliant rural communities where grandmothers can provide safe, stable, and nurturing care for vulnerable children. By improving livelihoods and strengthening social support systems, we aim to reduce poverty, child neglect, and economic dependency. Over time, the project will expand to more communities, empowering thousands of elderly caregivers across Nigeria.
