There are not many organisations that can lay claim to the fact that they've been in operation for a half century or more. The ASF has a 50+ year track record - to date close on R50 million has gone towards the mentorship and guidance of more than 65000 learners at rural/township schools in South Africa in completing their high school career. We continue to empower up to 2 500 high school learners annually across the Northern, Western and Eastern Cape regions.
Encouraging young learners, from marginalized communities to, at the very least, complete their high school education.
There is no denying that the rural/township learner has no easy journey when it comes to education. They walk long distances to school, their schools are under-resourced, even the most modest school fee payable is a financial burden on the household, most households live of social grants, most learners live with a single parent who is informally employed or with a grandparent who survives off an old-age pension.
This project has seen learners from the most dire circumstance overcome obstacles to become doctors, lawyers, teachers, engineers, nurses, managers - professionals able to sustain themselves and become the very role models that was amiss in their earlier life journey. They are living exemplars of the fact that all that is required is access to opportunity. This is what the African Scholars Fund is about - facilitating that access to opportunity. We cannot do it without you.
