Project Report | Dec 29, 2025
Advancing Girls Education, Wellbeing & Life Skills

By Victor Owuor | Program Coordinator

During this reporting period, Sunflower Trust successfully implemented the 24-week Life Skills and Gender Sensitization programme, reaching a total of 250 adolescent girls. Through structured and engaging sessions, girls gained a stronger understanding of gender equality, necessary life skills, and confidence-building. The programme encouraged girls to reflect on gender norms and to better understand their roles and responsibilities within their communities and society at large.

The programme has had a meaningful and lasting impact on participating adolescent girls. Many demonstrated noticeable improvement in their life skills, including communication, decision-making, and self-awareness. The girls also showed a deeper appreciation of gender equality and fairness, which translated into more positive attitudes and behaviours in school and at home. Increased confidence among the girls enabled them to make responsible choices in their daily lives.

Parental Engagement and Community Support for Adolescent Girls

In addition to learner-focused activities, the Sunflower Trust engaged parents through a three-week parental engagement module. A total of 62 parents participated in these sessions, where they gained a better understanding of the importance of education for both boys and girls. Parents also learned about basic gender concepts and practical strategies they can use to support their adolescents’ dreams and ambitions equally, without discrimination. The sessions emphasised the important role parents play in motivating and guiding young people to pursue their goals.

In the course of this implementation phase, the PALE literacy programme continued to show positive progress. The programme supported 143 PALE girls, helping to improve their foundational reading and comprehension skills. This consistent academic support strengthened learners’ overal performance in school and boosted their confidence in the classroom. As the year drew to a close, the girls remained motivated, engaged, and academically active as a result of the ongoing literacy interventions.

PALE Literacy, Holiday Programme, and Holistic Girls’ Development

The November 2025 Holiday Programme marked an important period of growth and learning for participating girls, with clear progress seen in their academic skills, confidence, and overall engagement. Through targeted literacy sessions, many PALE girls strengthened their reading, writing, and comprehension abilities. These improvements were evident in the way the girls expressed themselves more confidently, participated actively in discussions, and demonstrated greater focus and consistency in their learning.

Alongside academic support, the programme placed strong emphasis on personal development. Goal-setting sessions gave the PALE girls the opportunity to reflect on their ambitions and clearly define both their personal and academic goals. This process helped them develop a sense of purpose and motivation, enabling them to approach their studies and future plans with renewed confidence. The inclusion of STEM and leadership activities further enriched the programme, exposing PALE girls to practical science and technology skills while encouraging creativity, teamwork and leadership. These sessions broadened their horizons and helped them build skills that are necessary for their future learning and career pathways.

In addition, PALE girls took part in comprehensive Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) education sessions. These sessions provided accurate, age-appropriate information on health, personal safety and individual rights in a safe and supportive environment. As a result, the girls demonstrated increased awareness and confidence, feeling better equipped to make informed decisions about their wellbeing.
