In the first quarter of there year, we are proud to share the successful completion of our first STEM Education cohort, which concluded on 22 March 2025. Over an intensive and inspiring three-month journey, 127 adolescent girls from our community engaged in a dynamic and transformative STEM learning experience.
The program introduced the girls to a broad range of scientific topics, including composite materials, aerofoils, hydrogen, rockets, satellites, and the effects of vacuum and gravity. Beyond theoretical exposure, the girls actively participated in hands-on activities such as Scratch programming, constructing mathematical shapes, and investigating the scientific forces that shape everyday life. This practical, experiential approach made science relatable and engaging—empowering the girls to see themselves as future innovators and problem solvers.
In parallel, the girls participated in play-based literacy sessions designed to be joyful, inclusive, and tailored to their individual learning levels. Through group games, phonetic drills, storytelling, mind mapping, and level-based reading, we observed remarkable progress: 57% of participants advanced from basic letter recognition to reading full sentences confidently. This outcome highlights the transformative power of combining fun, relevance, and care in educational approaches—particularly for learners who have struggled in traditional academic settings.
Building on this momentum, we launched our April Holiday Program with a LEAD check-in session. This opening activity offered the girls a space to reconnect, reflect on their growth, and set fresh intentions for the new term. Under the theme “Showing Commitment to Education,” the girls identified personal and academic goals to guide their participation. Their focus and determination were deeply inspiring as they thoughtfully outlined steps toward achieving their aspirations.
Literacy sessions during the holiday period continued to strengthen reading and comprehension skills. Activities such as picture reading, paragraph reading, storytelling, and “correcting the incorrect” provided interactive and enjoyable ways for the girls to build confidence with language. It was heartening to witness their enthusiasm and growth in every session.
Beneficiary Testimonial – STEM Spark Education Cohort 1
One of the most powerful moments of this journey came through the voices of the girls themselves. Marion, one of our STEM participants, shared a heartfelt testimonial reflecting on her experience. Her words captured her excitement, motivation, and dreams—and highlighted the lasting impact of accessible, engaging, and empowering education for girls.
