This project will empower Young boys and girls hand ball players in Nyeri ,Kenya move on with their lives during the COVID 19 Pandemic This project has already donated food for 400 families during Covid-19, delivered by Mt.Kenya Sports Group(MSG) . Together with food, MSG donated education materials to 200 learners who are out of school due to the Pandemic. MSG is holding Guidance and Counselling sessions to the youth for mental health and fight drugs and early pregnancy among the youth.
MSG is a sports group using Handball to identify and nature talents among vulnerable youth in slum areas of Nyeri County.MSG uses the game of handball to bring the youth together and transforms their behavior through an innovative methods eg. Guidance and counselling to develop their talents. COVID 19 has affected our operations since February 2020, where due Health restrictions, the youth are supposed to stay out of school and this is exposing them to risky street life .
MSG will continue supporting these vulnerable youth and their families with foods, Learning materials and protective equipments. We will also organize Guidance and counselling sessions to equip them with necessary knowledge, skills and attitude ahead of schools and Handball tournaments re-opening.
While the current urgent need is food, Education support, Guidance and counselling, the long-term impact of this programme is to transforms the lives of young people and help them escape the drugs and early pregnancies which is prevalent here and made worse by COVID 19 Pandemic.
