Our mission is to guide, empower, and heal women. As the only non-profit organization of our kind in the area, we have helped over 7,000 women move toward financial independence after surviving soul-crushing events. No one is turned away by the inability to pay. We start where a woman is when she walks through the door. We provide counseling, support groups, job search tools, a professional clothing & personal care closet, and help women get out of violent situations. We save lives.
Even in 2016 women still struggle to gain financial independence. In addition, being underpaid and/or underemployed, experiencing family violence or struggling to end the cycle of poverty, women can become overwhelmed and give up. Leaving a violent relationship depends on being able to support herself and her children. With few public programs available, a lack of education or skills to meet current demand and knowledgeable and accessible resources, women can't safely leave a bad situation.
Our staff is specially trained to meet the unique needs of women in our community. We provide a place where women can participate in personal, family, and career counseling, receive comprehensive employment services, attend a workshop or support group, or talk to an attorney, all under one roof and on a sliding fee scale starting at $1. We offer computer classes, personalized instruction, a professional clothes closet and access to a food pantry. No one is turned away based on inability to pay.
The project will empower over 300 women every year to work toward financial independence for themselves and their families. Having more women prepared bring their value to the workforce and community will lead to stability and safety for future generations.
