Professors Without Borders aims to improve women's access to quality education, as well as the recruitment and retention of women working in higher education. This latest project will help give women tools, resources, mentoring and networking opportunities necessary for successful careers. Our Fellowship for women is the first community of its kind that is truly accessible and relevant to participants, particularly in the developing world.
Despite record numbers of female students and faculty in higher education, women continue to hit the glass ceiling with less than 30% in top leadership positions. Many existing Fellowships are behind paywalls or require institutional support, which can be arbitrarily withheld. Those who need the support and tools are least likely to have access to them. Our Fellowship and programmes directly address the problems women in higher education persistently face.
The Empowering Women in Higher Education Fellowship aims to address some of the recurring challenges faced by women working in the higher education sector. Thirty women from around the world will be selected in the first cohort, and will serve as mentors for the next generation of the fellowship, building a community of ongoing support that will help uplift women working in the higher education sector.
The Fellowship will equip fellows with essential skills to help navigate their academic careers, and will build a network of supportive women who will be united by a common goal of female empowerment and social mobility. The first cohort of fellows will serve as mentors for future cohorts, building a global network with exponential growth potential.
