“It’s been 3 years I started Rose Cultivation and my life has never been the same, it changed completely. Associating with Seva Mandir’s project is best decision I have ever made in this lifetime” says Dharmi happily.
Darmi and her husband Pratap are traditional farmers in Aad village in south Rajasthan. They are family of 6 (3 son and 1 daughter in law). Dharmi got support for floriculture and attended various advanced agriculture trainings under the intervention through Seva Mandir. Doubtful about leaving their seasonal crop cultivation, she decided to give it a try in miniscule part of their farmland. She planted 950 saplings of rose and sold flowers worth Rs. 55,000 ($696) in the very first year. She used this hard-earned money for the education of her daughter-in-law.
Happy with her success, Dharmi decided to continue with floriculture. In 2021, she prepared a rose nursery and sold 5,000 saplings and earned Rs. 41,000 ($519). Additionally, she earned Rs. 20,000 ($253) through selling the flowers. Thus, she made around Rs. 61,000 ($772) through this activity. In 2022, Darmi encouraged 4 more farmers in her village to cultivate rose plants while they themselves are expanding the cultivation area in their farm. This year, they cultivated rose plants and prepared nursery of 12,000 saplings and are expecting a return of around Rs. 1.3 lakhs ($1,646).
Dharmi proved that it is important to take calculated risk and open to changes. The association with Seva Mandir’s project not only helped her increase her income but also provided a platform to become an entrepreneur and improve her family’s wellbeing.
Thank you so much for all your faith and continued support to our programme. We are happy to share that we are participating in GlobalGiving’s July Bonus Day Campaign. Donations of $100 USD and up will be matched on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, starting at 9 a.m. ET. The higher the amount, the higher will be the match. So, this is the chance to take one small action and it will have more impact on the lives of many women farmers. We do hope that you will consider supporting us again.
Best Wishes,
Atul Lekhra & the Seva Mandir team
