In villages across Uganda, mothers gather in Women Care Groups with one shared hope: to see their children grow up healthy and free from hunger. This project will empower 60 of these groups to create 1,200 kitchen gardens, turning small patches of soil into sources of fresh vegetables, better nutrition, and new income opportunities. With vegetables at their doorsteps, families will eat healthier meals, reduce reliance on animal products, and protect their children from malnutrition and disease.
Across villages in Uganda, too many mothers watch their children grow up on empty stomachs, surviving on meals that fill but do not nourish. Fresh vegetables are scarce, and diets are often poor in the nutrients children need to thrive. As a result, little ones face the painful reality of malnutrition, stunted growth, and frequent illness. Women, who carry the daily burden of providing for their families, are left with few options to earn an income or secure a better future for their children.
Through this project, 60 Women Care Groups in Uganda will turn small backyard spaces into 1,200 thriving kitchen gardens, where fresh vegetables grow just steps from their homes. These gardens will mean that children no longer go to bed hungry or sick from poor diets, but instead have access to the nutritious food they need to grow strong and healthy. For mothers, the gardens are more than food - they are a path to dignity and opportunity, providing skills in sustainable farming.
This project will help break the cycle of hunger and poverty by enabling 1,200 kitchen gardens to feed families, restore soils, and build resilience to climate change. Children will grow up healthier and better nourished, while women gain economic independence and leadership. Over time, these gardens will spark a movement of hope and resilience, where empowered women protect their children and nurture a greener, safer future.
